Frequently Asked Questions

About eola

Who are you?

eola was founded in mid-2017 by Callum and Dan. They are two socially minded entrepreneurs, looking to solve real world problems with technology

With a combined decade of experience in tech start-ups, and a lifetime of experience on the water, they (hopefully) know what they are doing.

What is eola?

eola is a discovery platform making adventure sports in the UK much more accessible. We connect you with the best adventure sports schools, and provide a simple and secure environment in which to book them.

If you are looking for your first or next place to go surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, or kitesurfing, you no longer need to look further than our constantly expanding selection of schools.

How does it work?

When you find an activity that looks right for you on eola, simply select your preferred date, book, and pay.

What happens if you can’t arrange a suitable activity?

You will receive a complete refund! So far, this has never happened though; we want to keep it that way!

When should I book?

Now! Seriously, it’s never too soon to book.

In the summer, activities start to fill up very quickly, so we always recommend booking as far in advance as you can (up to two months!).

If you aren’t sure when you are going to go, but know you want to, why not buy an activity voucher! You can redeem it anytime within 1 year (and probably after - we’re pretty easy going!), or you can give one to a friend / family / us?

What if I am unsure, or have questions?

We are always here to chat! Either ping us on our live chat tool, or drop us an email and we’ll get back to you ASAP. We are here to help!

Why do some schools not have activities listed?

Some of the schools on the platform haven’t partnered with eola to allow direct bookings. In those cases, you will need to go to the school site directly to book

Why are some of the activities not clickable?

This could be due to schools being shut. During the winter season, a number of schools close up, reopening in Spring. In those cases, it is not possible to book the activities. However, if you buy a voucher, you can then arrange to go to the school as soon as it reopens

I lost my booking number/ email! HELP!

We’ll help you find your booking! Not to worry!

What happens if the weather means the activity can’t occur?

In any scenario where the school cancels the activity, we are more than happy to help you reschedule or receive a full refund.

Am I too old / young?

For most schools, you need to be older than 7 (reach out to us if you want to bring someone younger and we will see what we can do!). On the other side, as long as you are physically able to do so, then we would love to get you out there. Drop us a message if you aren’t sure.

I had a terrible time. Can I have a refund?

Wait, what? We’d love to know why. We want everyone to have an absolutely incredible experience. As a result, we are happy to send you on another experience to make up for it, or give you a refund! 😊

I am totally Stoked!

About the activities

What do I need to bring?

That depends on the school! In most cases, just swimwear and a towel. We’d also recommend warm clothing for after though. Don’t forget to bring bottle of water and a snack too. Also, smiles.

I have a physical impairment/ learning disability/ am deaf/ partially sighted?

Many schools cater to differently able people, and we would be delighted to help you find somewhere amazing. Most schools do require that you are able to swim at least 50 metres unaided though.

In any case, drop us a message, and we will do our best to see what’s possible.

Stand-up paddleboarding

Do I need to know how to swim?

You need to be able to swim at least 50 metres if you’re going out on open water. However, some schools may accept less. If you aren’t sure, drop us a message and we’ll help you out!

Will I fall in a lot?

Some people find it quite easy to balance on paddleboards, so don’t spend much time in the water. Others can find it more challenging. We would generally assume you will fall in at least once though!

Do I need to be fit?

Absolutely not. One of the great joys of paddleboarding is just how accessible it is for almost anyone.

Surfing

Do I need to know how to swim?

You need to be able to swim at least 50 metres. If you aren’t sure, drop us a message and we’ll help you out!

Is the sea around the UK cold?

Almost all schools will have you in a summer wetsuit in the summer and a winter wetsuit in the winter, and most people find this absolutely fine!

What if I can’t stand up?

Surfing is not easy. For some people, it can take several activities before they are standing. However, it is absolutely wonderful fun, and it will be amazing fun, whatever happens.

Kitesurfing

Do I need to know how to swim?

You need to be able to swim at least 50 metres. If you aren’t sure, drop us a message and we’ll help you out!

How soon before I can start kitesurfing unaided?

Generally, you’ll need to go through at least three days of tuition before you’re kitesurfing unaided, but it can be more.

It is a technically difficult sport, but a truly wonderful one.
