by Callum Hemsley

Looking to go kitesurfing near Birmingham? We have all the best locations within 3.5 hours from Birmingham listed below;

West of Birmingham

1. Aberystwyth, Wales

Recommended schools: Aber Adventures & Coast riders

What we like: There are two great spots just north of Aberystwyth, Aberdyfi & Borth. Both of these spots have their unique advantages and disadvantages and each of them work best in certain wind conditions. There is also a lagoon at Aberdovey where most lessons take place, so a good few options here all within 15min drive of each other.

Travel: It's a 3 hours journey via train or car to Aberystwyth from Birmingham. We suggest you drive as you might want to go checkout the other spots in this area and public transport is limited.

2. Abersoch, Wales

What we like: There are a host of different spots on offer in Llyn Peninsula, from flat water to waves and so suitable water conditions for those of all experience levels. However, all spots work best at certain wind directions, so we would recommend checking on the day which one to head to.

Travel: The trains are limited here so we strongly recommend driving, it's just over 3 hours from Birmingham.

3. Swansea Bay, Wales

Recommended schools: Blast Kiteboarding & Gower Kite Riders

What we like: Aberavon is one of the most popular spots in South Wales and it's not hard to see why. Nice big spacious beach with sand dunes and an industrial view make it a safe and unique place to kite. On a good day you can get both waves and flat water!

Travel: Just over two hours drive from Birmingham makes this place very accessible. There are also trains into nearby Cardiff & Swansea if you opt for public transport.

East of Birmingham

4. Hunstanton, Norfolk

Recommended schools: Hunstanton Water sports & Kite Eze

What we like: Huge flat water sport (at low tide) which is perfect for learning or practising that new trick! There are 4 beaches were you can Kite meaning great weather and tide conditions no matter what you're after. There's a great atmosphere around the town with plenty of activities to keep you occupied after your time kiting.

Travel: Just under 3 hours drive from Birmingham makes this place well worth the journey.

Now that you know about the best spots within 3.5 hours of Birmingham, there really is no excuse not to get out there and give it a go!
